The National Health Mission (NHM), which combines the National Rural Health Mission and the National Urban Health Mission, was started by the Indian government in 2005. It is led by a Mission Director and overseen by the Government of India-appointed National Level Monitors. Both the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) are relatively new initiatives (NUHM). Health System Strengthening (RMNCH+A) in rural and urban regions, Reproductive-Maternal-Neonatal-Child and Adolescent Health, and Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases are the main program components. NHM aspires to provide universal access to equitable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare services that are accountable and responsive to people’s needs.
