About GATE
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering OR GATE is one of the famous and toughest national-level examinations that assesses a candidate’s knowledge of undergraduate-level subjects in Science, Architecture, Engineering, Technology, and Humanities.
On behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, and Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, the GATE examination is conducted every year by IISc Bengaluru and seven IITs comprising IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, and IIT Kharagpur.
The exam is organized by different IITs every year. IIT Roorkee is the Organising Institute for GATE 2025.
Benefit of GATE Qualification
Students who qualify in the GATE exam can seek admission with possible financial assistance to Master’s Programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts/ Humanities; and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Engineering, Science, and Humanities, in Institutions supported by Ministry of Education (MoE) and other Government agencies such as IITs.
GATE score is also used by some colleges and Institutions for admission to PhD programs without MoE scholarship. Several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have also been using GATE scores for recruitment such as DRDO.
For Psychology students, IITs offer an M.Sc in Cognitive Science and a Ph.D. in Psychology with multiple research areas. It means if you are planning to get admission into an MSc Cognitive Science or a PhD Psychology course in IITs then you should give GATE Psychology examinations.
Note: A valid COGJET score is also valid for M.Sc Cognitive Science admissions into IITs and University Allahabad.

GATE Psychology Examination 2025
Eligibility:
Those who are currently enrolled in their third year or higher of any undergraduate degree program in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, or Humanities, or who have already completed a government-approved degree in one of these fields, are eligible to take the GATE 2025 exam.
